Barcelona Eyes Onahi as De Jong Replacement
CHTV has revealed that Moroccan international Azzedine Ounahi is among the options being considered by Barcelona to replace the potentially absent Dutchman Frenkie de Jong, who suffered a knee injury while playing for his country in the 2026 World Cup.
Barcelona officially announced on July 23 that medical examinations confirmed Frenkie de Jong has a tear in the medial collateral ligament of his right knee, stating that the player will continue treatment and medical follow-up while monitoring the progress of his condition over the coming months.
Azzedine Onahi's name comes up in this context, especially since the Moroccan midfielder has previously been linked with Barcelona. Reports in 2022 revealed the Catalan club's interest in him following his standout performances with the Moroccan national team at the Qatar World Cup. His name has resurfaced among Barcelona's options in the summer of 2023.
Onahi has experience in La Liga after his move to Girona, making him a well-known player among Spanish clubs. His recent standout performances in the last World Cup have further enhanced his reputation.
