Financial Crisis Threatens Bunyodkor's Survival Due to Rivaldo

Uzbek club Bunyodkor is facing a severe financial crisis after informing the Uzbek League that they cannot travel for their away match against Qizilqum due to a lack of financial resources, a development that threatens their continued participation in competitions.

The roots of the crisis trace back to a lengthy financial dispute with former Brazilian star Rivaldo, who played for the club between 2008 and 2010. The club had reached an agreement to restructure its debts, but failed to pay the installment due for 2026, prompting the player's lawyer to demand the full remaining amount along with additional penalties.

According to reports, Bunyodkor settled its dues for 2024 and 2025 before its financial crisis worsened this year, prompting FIFA to issue a warning to the club, threatening sanctions including a transfer ban if debts are not settled.

The current crisis raises genuine fears of the collapse of a project that was one of the top clubs in Asia around 15 years ago, as the outstanding debts owed to Rivaldo could completely end the club's journey if the crisis remains unresolved.
