Franco Baresi, AC Milan and Italy Legend, Passes Away

Italy woke up on Friday to the sad news that AC Milan and Italian national team legend Franco Baresi has passed away at the age of 66 due to a respiratory illness, marking the end of the life of one of the greatest defenders in the history of the game, a timeless symbol associated with loyalty, leadership, and success for over four decades.

Franco Baresi was born on May 8, 1960, in the Italian town of Travagliato, and joined AC Milan's academy at a young age, before starting his first-team career in 1977. For twenty years, he never wore the shirt of another club, becoming one of the most prominent players who embodied the meaning of belonging and loyalty, leading the "Rossoneri" during one of the most prosperous periods in the club's history.

During his time at AC Milan, Paolo Maldini participated in over 700 official matches, leading the team to six Serie A titles and three European Cups (now known as the UEFA Champions League), along with numerous domestic and continental trophies that made him one of the most decorated players in the club's history. After retiring in 1997, Milan decided to retire the number 6 jersey in honor of his exceptional career, a rare gesture that reflects his historical significance within the club.

Paolo Baresi's brilliance was not limited to his club career; he was a cornerstone of the Italian national team, earning 81 caps.
