Brescia Officially Declares Bankruptcy: End of One of Italy's Historic Clubs After 115 Years

The Brescia City Court has officially declared Brescia FC bankrupt, bringing an end to the legacy of one of Italy's oldest football clubs after 115 years since its founding in 1911. The decision came after debts accumulated to around €20 million, leading the club to officially cease its activities.

The Italian Football Federation had withdrawn the professional status from the club in the summer of 2025, before excluding it from all local competitions, which deprived it of participation in the 2025-2026 season of Serie C, following its administrative relegation in the previous season.

Throughout its history, Brescia has witnessed the brilliance of many football stars, most notably Andrea Pirlo, Roberto Baggio, Luca Toni, Pep Guardiola, and Mario Balotelli. The club's management attempted to salvage its financial situation through the revenues generated from Sandro Tonali's transfer under FIFA's solidarity mechanism, but this effort was not enough to avoid bankruptcy.

Despite Brescia's disappearance from the Italian football scene, the city will not be without a team representing it, as Union Brescia was established in 2025 to embark on a new project in the third division. Last season, they reached the promotion playoffs but fell short of advancing to Serie B after losing to Ascoli.
