Contract Duration Dispute Delays Slot's Appointment as Netherlands Coach

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf has revealed that the disagreement over the contract duration is still delaying the official announcement of Dutchman Arne Slot as the new head coach of the Netherlands national team, despite reaching an agreement on most negotiation terms.

According to the newspaper, the Dutch Football Association is keen on granting Slot a contract that extends until 2030, aiming to ensure technical stability for the national team during upcoming competitions. Meanwhile, the Dutch coach prefers to sign only until 2028.

The report added that Slot does not wish to be tied to a long-term contract with the national team, as he sees himself as a club coach in the medium term, aspiring to return to club management after his experience with the national team.

It is worth noting that Slot began his career as a midfielder with FC Zwolle, before also representing NAC Breda and Sparta Rotterdam. After retiring, he turned to coaching, where he made a name for himself with Cambuur and then AZ Alkmaar, before achieving significant success with Feyenoord, leading them to win the Eredivisie title in the 2022-2023 season and the KNVB Cup in 2023-2024. He then moved on to manage Liverpool, further solidifying his status as one of the most prominent Dutch coaches in recent years.
