Uncertainty Surrounds Nayef Aguerd's Future with Marseille

Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd's future with Olympique Marseille is increasingly in question, as his standing within the French team has diminished. Amid rising speculation about a potential departure during the current summer transfer window, there is interest from Gulf clubs, alongside Stade Ren's renewed interest in securing his services.

French newspaper "La Provence" has revealed that Marseille's management no longer classifies Aïssa Mandi among the untouchable players, having reassessed his situation following a first season that fell short of expectations. The Moroccan defender struggled with a groin injury that sidelined him for several matches, which also negatively impacted his participation with the Moroccan national team in the 2026 World Cup.

The newspaper indicated that this shift in the stance of the French club's management could pave the way for Akkord's departure during the summer transfer window, especially with several Gulf clubs monitoring his situation and awaiting the final decision regarding his future.

At the same time, Stade Rennais has resurfaced as one of the leading options, following reports that the French club is contemplating the return of their former defender, who played for them between 2020 and 2022 before moving to West Ham United. This comes after negotiations with several targeted defenders in the transfer market have stalled.

French transfer specialist Jonathan has reinforced these reports, confirming via his account on "X" that the idea of Akkord returning to Rennes has been on the table since the end of June. However, he clarified that negotiations have not yet reached an advanced or decisive stage.

Nayef Aguerd is under contract with Olympique Marseille until the summer of 2030, but the presence of a clause allowing his departure for around €15 million could ease the completion of the deal, should the club receive an offer that meets their financial demands during the current transfer window.
