The process of appointing Andrea Pirlo as the head coach of the Italian national team has been temporarily halted, as the Italian Football Federation decided to review its commercial ties with a Russian betting company before making a final decision.

According to "La Gazzetta dello Sport," citing "Calcio Mercato," Italian Football Federation President Giovanni Malagò has preferred to wait and study Andrea Pirlo's file, despite the agreement between the two parties being close.

Reports indicate that the controversy revolves around Andrea Pirlo's role as a global ambassador for the Russian-owned company Fonbet, amid the ongoing tensions between Italy and Russia since 2022. Additionally, Pirlo recently participated in an event for the company in Moscow.

The report added that Pirlo's legal team confirms that his agreement with the company is tied to his contract with United FC Dubai, and that terminating his association with the club will automatically lead to the termination of the advertising agreement.

Andrea Pirlo is working to terminate his contract with the UAE club in preparation for starting official negotiations, as the Italian Football Federation refuses to negotiate with a coach still tied to another club.

The report confirmed that Paolo Maldini and Leonardo still see Pirlo as the most suitable option to lead the Italian national team, and the federation is ready to act quickly if his stance is deemed compatible with the requirements of the position.
