Official: Manchester City Extends Abdulkadir Khusanov's Contract

Manchester City has officially announced the renewal of Uzbek defender Abdulkadir Khosanov's contract for five years, keeping him at the English club until the summer of 2031, following his impressive performances since joining in January 2025.

Last season saw a remarkable development in Josanov's performance, as he became one of the essential elements in the team's lineup. He formed a strong partnership in central defense with Marc Guéhi during the second half of the season, participating in 16 of the last 19 matches in the Premier League. Josanov also contributed to the team's triumph in the FA Cup and the EFL Cup, in addition to being nominated for the final shortlist for Manchester City's Player of the Season for 2025-2026.

After signing the new contract, Khusanov said: "It's a great day for me and my family, and I am very happy to extend my stay with Manchester City. I have enjoyed every minute since I arrived in Manchester, and I feel that I am developing and learning a lot as a player. My goal now is to prove myself to coach Enzo Maresca and his staff, and to secure a starting position in the team. I thank the City fans for their tremendous support, and I look forward to doing everything I can to help the club achieve more success."

Hugo Viana, the club's sporting director, praised the development of the 22-year-old defender, stating that the club sees him as a project for a world-class defender. "We are extremely happy with his progress since arriving in England. He possesses all the physical and technical attributes to become one of the best defenders in the world, and he still has a lot to offer. That’s why we are pleased to extend his contract, and we hope he will be an important part of Enzo Maresca's plans in the coming years."

Khusanov is the first Uzbek player to compete in the Premier League, and he has quickly become one of the standout defensive talents in the league thanks to his incredible speed and strength in tackles. He played a significant role in leading the Uzbekistan national team to qualify for the World Cup finals for the first time in history, continuing a rising trajectory that has made him one of the brightest young stars at Manchester City.
