Medhat Shalaby: Al Ahly Out of the CAF Champions League

Media personality Medhat Shalaby announced that the Egyptian Football Association is preparing to send the names of local clubs qualified to participate in the African Champions League and the Confederation Cup to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) tomorrow morning, Saturday.

Shalaby stated in his remarks on "MBC Masr 2" that the map of African participation for Egyptian clubs next season will see Zamalek and Pyramids in the Champions League, while Al Ahly and ZED will compete in the Confederation Cup, relying on what he described as highly reliable information from within the corridors of "CAF".

He added that there were hopes to increase the number of clubs participating in African tournaments, allowing Al Ahly to compete in the Champions League, noting that this proposal would have benefited the tournament and African football in general. However, it did not receive approval.

Shalaby pointed out that the efforts of engineer Hany Abou Rida, the head of the Egyptian Football Association, were unsuccessful in passing this proposal due to opposition from several clubs within the continent, according to his sources from within CAF.
