The Belgian Football Union has appointed Dutchman Mark van Bommel as the new head coach of the national team, effective from August 15, 2026, with a contract lasting until the end of the UEFA Euro 2028.

The federation stated that Van Bommel previously managed PSV Eindhoven, Wolfsburg, and Royal Antwerp, leading the latter to a Belgian league and cup double in the 2022/2023 season. He also boasts an impressive playing career with PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and AC Milan, alongside making 79 international appearances for the Netherlands.

The new coaching staff will include three assistants: Baudouin Renden, Martin Martinez, and Reiner Rubimont, as part of the federation's plan to bolster the team with experienced coaching personnel.

Mark van Bommel stated: "I am very honored to become the coach of the Belgium national team, and I thank the Royal Belgian Football Association for the trust they have placed in me. Belgium has outstanding players and immense potential, and we will work together to build a disciplined, ambitious, and brave team capable of competing with the best national teams."

He added: "Success is not guaranteed, but hard work, honesty, and commitment are assured. We will do everything we can to help this team develop day by day and make the Belgian people proud of it."

He concluded his statements by saying: "I look forward to meeting the players, coaching staff, and fans, and starting this new chapter together."
