Koller Reflects on His Time with Al Ahly

Marcel Koller, the new head coach of Swiss side Zurich, spoke about his previous experience with Al Ahly, emphasizing the fans' ongoing desire for the Red Devils to win in every match.

Koller managed Al Ahly from October 2022 to May 2025, achieving an impressive eleven titles with the club, including two in the Africa Champions League.

Marcel Koller stated in an interview with Swiss channel Blue Win: "Everything with Al Ahly was more intense, so it is important to keep your calm, and since we achieved a lot of success, things remained under control."

The Swiss coach added: "But when you lose, it becomes extremely difficult, so it's better to stay at home and not go out, because every fan will hold you accountable, and with 22 million people in Cairo, it was a bit exhausting."

Regarding his acceptance to coach FC Zurich, despite being considered a legend of their traditional rivals, Grasshoppers, he said: "I definitely needed to think about it; I spent my entire career with Grasshoppers, except for two years between 2010 and 2012."

He continued: "But in the end, the club president convinced me to join Zurich.. I have been linked with the club for a long time, and it was easy to build a good relationship with them."
