Liverpool Considering Sale of Minority Stake in Club
An investment group led by Indian businessman Amit Bhatia, the former co-chairman of Queens Park Rangers and son-in-law of billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, has entered negotiations with Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the owners of Liverpool, to acquire a minority stake in the club.
According to The Guardian, the initial offer is estimated at around £1.35 billion for the acquisition of about 30% of the club's shares, which gives Liverpool an overall valuation of nearly £4.5 billion. The ownership group confirmed that discussions are still in the early stages, and no agreement has been finalized yet.
FSG is aiming to attract new investments to support the club's competitiveness, especially after spending nearly £450 million in last summer's transfer market. They have confirmed that the negotiations do not indicate an intention to relinquish control or sell the club entirely.
The report added that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has been mentioned as a potential member of the investment consortium, but he has not yet made a decision regarding investing in a Premier League club. The newspaper indicates that negotiations are likely to continue in the coming period until an agreement is reached or they collapse.
