Inter Milan continues its efforts in the summer transfer market in search of strengthening its defense, placing Argentine defender Cristian Romero among its top targets. However, the high financial demands from Tottenham Hotspur are currently hindering the completion of the deal.

According to "Football Italia", Romero wishes to return to Serie A after deciding to leave Tottenham during the current transfer window, despite the injury he sustained during the 2026 World Cup final with the Argentina national team.

The report indicates that the Argentine defender's contract with Tottenham extends until June 2029, but he feels that his journey with the London club has come to an end, especially after a difficult season for the team, which saw a struggle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The source added that Inter Milan is in contact with the player's representatives, as Romero is welcoming the idea of returning to Italy, where he previously played for Genoa, Juventus, and Atalanta before moving to Tottenham in the summer of 2021 for €53.8 million.

The report clarified that Tottenham's management and the player are aware of the approaching end of their relationship this summer. However, the English club insists on receiving €50 million to agree to the sale of the Argentine defender.

The financial demands, alongside Romero's salary, remain the two biggest obstacles for Inter Milan, which is still considering the possibility of completing the transfer and bringing the player back to the Italian league.
