CAF Doubles Prize for Women's Africa Cup of Nations Champion

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has taken a new step to support and develop women's football on the continent, announcing today, Wednesday, a substantial increase in the prize money for the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, with significant raises covering various positions and participating teams.

CAF has officially confirmed that the prize money allocated to the winning national team has increased by 100%, rising from one million dollars to two million dollars, marking the largest increase in the tournament's history for the champion's reward.

The increases are not limited to the titleholder, as the continental federation clarified that the total prize money for the tournament has risen by 67%, moving from $3.475 million to $5.8 million.

The increase also included the top-ranked national teams, with the runners-up's prize rising by 50 percent to reach $750,000, while the third-place prize increased by 43 percent, as part of a policy aimed at enhancing financial rewards for outstanding teams.

The CAF has also granted an additional financial boost to all participating teams, having decided to increase the participation allocation for each team from $125,000 to $150,000, marking a 20 percent increase. This will benefit all 16 teams competing in the tournament.

In this context, the African Football Confederation noted that the tournament has expanded in terms of the number of participating teams, increasing from 8 teams in previous editions to 16 teams, a move that reflects the ongoing development of women's football across the African continent.
