Van Bommel Appointed New Belgium Coach
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Belgian Football Association has reached an agreement with Dutchman Mark van Bommel to take over as head coach of the national team, succeeding Frenchman Rudi Garcia.
According to Romano, the agreement extends until June 2028, with all understandings reached between the parties. Only the signing of contracts and the official announcement of the deal remain.
Mark van Bommel's appointment comes after Rudi Garcia's exit from the helm of the "Red Devils" following the national team's campaign in the 2026 World Cup, as part of the federation's plan to embark on a new phase in preparation for upcoming challenges.
Mark van Bommel is one of the most prominent Dutch coaches in recent years, having previously managed PSV Eindhoven, Wolfsburg, and Royal Antwerp, where he led the club to win the Belgian league title in the 2022-2023 season. He is now gearing up for his first experience at the national team level.
