English Football Legend Kevin Keegan Passes Away

English football legend Kevin Keegan, the former captain and manager of the England national team, has passed away at the age of 75 after a battle with stage four cancer, as announced by Newcastle United and his family on Monday.

Kevin Keegan is considered one of the most prominent symbols of English football, having started his career with Scunthorpe United before moving to Liverpool in 1971, where he led the team to three English league titles, an FA Cup, two UEFA Cups, and the European Cup in 1977. He also became the only British player to win the Ballon d'Or twice in consecutive years, in 1978 and 1979, during his time playing for Hamburger SV in Germany.

On the international stage, Keegan played 63 matches for the England national team, scoring 21 goals and captaining the side in 31 games. After retiring from playing in 1984, he enjoyed notable success as a manager with Newcastle United, leading them back to the Premier League and competing for the title in the 1995-1996 season. He then took charge of the England national team from 1999 to 2000, followed by a stint at Manchester City, before returning briefly to Newcastle in 2008.
