Sergio Conceição in the running to coach Belgium
Portuguese coach Sergio Conceição has entered the list of candidates to take over the Belgium national team, after initial communications began between his representatives and the Belgian Football Association, following the departure of French coach Rudi Garcia from his position after the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup.
According to journalist Sasha Tavolieri, preliminary talks have already occurred between Conceição's representatives and the Belgian Football Union. However, no direct negotiations have yet taken place between the Portuguese coach and the federation officials, as all available options for selecting the new coach continue to be evaluated.
Sérgio Conceição is considered one of the leading names for the position, alongside Dutchman Mark van Bommel, who Belgian reports indicate is also garnering significant interest from the club. In fact, negotiations with him have reportedly reached an advanced stage according to some sources.
Sérgio Conceição had previously revealed that he received calls from the Belgian Football Association following Domenico Tedesco's departure, but negotiations did not progress at that time. With the position vacant once again, his name has strongly re-entered the list of candidates, while the Belgian federation is expected to finalize the identity of their new coach in the upcoming period.
