New Developments on Proposal to Increase African Club Slots

Famous broadcaster Ahmed Shobair has announced updates on Hany Abou Rida's proposal, the President of the Egyptian Football Association and a member of the CAF Executive Committee, regarding the increase in the number of clubs competing in the African Champions League and the Confederation Cup.

During his program on "Al-Nahar" channel, Shobir explained that the CAF executive office was scheduled to discuss the proposal in its meeting on Friday, but the meeting did not take place due to some logistical circumstances.

He added that the postponement of the meeting did not weaken the chances of approving the proposal, confirming that it enjoys the support of the majority of the executive committee members, with direct backing from CAF President Patrice Motsepe and his deputy Fouzi Lekjaa, the president of the Moroccan Football Federation.

The proposal stipulates granting some national federations an additional spot in the tournaments based on their ranking, allowing countries like Egypt to participate with three clubs, with the third team starting its journey from the preliminary rounds.

In conclusion, Shobir confirmed that the proposal is under serious study within CAF, with expectations of a resolution soon, ahead of the official announcement of the African Union's competition agenda for the new season.
