Flick Faces Key Decisions to Reshape Barcelona's Defense
Barcelona has begun its preparations for the new season, with coach Hans Flick focusing on resolving several crucial issues in the backline, which is the area most in need of decisions during the pre-season.
According to Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo," Barcelona has renewed Andreas Christensen's contract for two more seasons, allowing him to continue alongside Pau Torres, Ronald Araújo, and Eric Garcia, while the possibility of one defender leaving and a replacement being signed remains.
Flick is also awaiting clarity on Gerard Martin's future, as the club sees him as a candidate to play in central defense, alongside evaluating Álvaro Cortés after his appearances with the first team.
At right-back, Jules Koundé remains the primary option, despite Bayern Munich's interest in signing him, while Flick will assess both Xavi Espart and Héctor Fort to choose the suitable alternative.
On the left side, Barcelona continues to work on signing João Cancelo, while Alejandro Balde is keen to stay with the team, giving Jofre Torrent the chance to prove himself during the pre-season.
The Spanish newspaper believes that the coming weeks will be crucial for Flick to finalize all defensive matters and select the players he will rely on before the new season kicks off.
