Flick Shapes Barcelona's Summer Transfers, Strengthens Influence

Hans Flick has made his mark on Barcelona's summer transfer activities, with the signings of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi, alongside the recruitment of fitness coach Benjamin Kugel, all based on direct requests from the German coach.

Spanish newspaper "Marca" reported that the collaboration between Flick and sporting director Deco has been ongoing for two years, but it has shifted this summer, with the coach now leading the technical direction of signings while Deco handles the execution.

In previous seasons, Deco played a major role in sporting planning, given the economic circumstances the club faced, contributing to deals such as Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, as well as loan agreements for Juan Garcia and Marcus Rashford, and the signing of Rony Bardji, before bringing in Joao Cancelo on loan in the winter.

The report indicated that Flick rejected the option to buy Rashford, preferring to sign Anthony Gordon, whom he deemed more suitable for his style due to his speed and pressing ability. He also requested the addition of Karim Adeyemi, based on his previous knowledge of the player.

The German coach's influence extended to the coaching staff as well, prompting Barcelona's management to hire fitness coach Jan Benjamin Kugel, with whom he previously worked in the German national team.

The report also noted that Flick's influence within Barcelona continues to grow, as he was also responsible for the decision to reject the signing of defender Alessandro Bastoni, confirming his increasing role in shaping the team's identity.
