Bellingham Responds to Tuchel, Calls Winning Goal One of His Best
England star Jude Bellingham emphasized that strong character and determination were crucial in his team's 2-1 extra-time victory over Norway, securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup semifinals.
Bellingham stated in an interview with ITV: "Character and perseverance are what got us here. Even when things weren't going our way, we found a way to win again. Whether in 90 minutes or 120 minutes, we will give everything we have."
He added: "Every player ready to come on gave their all on the pitch. I am very proud of this team again; we have reached the World Cup semifinals."
The Real Madrid star noted that the victory is not just for the players, saying: "This win is for everyone. The whole country wins, and everyone who stands behind us, from players to coaching staff to fans. It's a huge sacrifice from everyone, and they deserve all the appreciation."
Regarding his decisive goal in extra time, he said: "It's a very important goal because it secured our place in the semifinals, and it definitely ranks among the most important goals I've scored."
He also revealed his conversation with teammate Morgan Rogers before the goal, explaining: "I told him to keep going because I knew he would make a difference. I've scored many goals like that, and the goalkeeper had a great game, but the ball rebounded in a way that gave me the chance to score, and I was lucky to be in the right place."
Bellingham praised his teammates who are participating in their first major tournament, saying: "They are warriors. They didn't show that they were playing in a major tournament for the first time, and everyone who came on performed at a high level; you can't know a player's mentality or the size of their heart except in such tough moments."
He concluded by commenting on Thomas Tuchel's remarks expressing dissatisfaction with the team's performance: "Well, it doesn't matter. The situation is tough; it's a challenging match. All the players put in a great effort. All respect and appreciation to the players who delivered a fantastic performance."
