Barcelona Opts for Al Ahly Over Fulham in Joan Gamper Trophy

Barcelona has confirmed its decision regarding the opponent for the Joan Gamper Trophy, settling on facing Egyptian club Al Ahly, despite considering several other options to present the team to its fans ahead of the new season.

According to "Mundo Deportivo," Barcelona's management preferred to face a Premier League club due to the competitive strength and appeal of English teams, with Fulham being among the candidates for the friendly match.

However, the Catalan club reconsidered this idea after Fulham announced the appointment of Álvaro Arbeloa as their head coach, as Barcelona's management did not see the former Real Madrid coach as a suitable option for the Joan Gamper Trophy.

The report added that Arbeloa's recent statements during his time at Real Madrid did not help improve his image among Barcelona fans, who have viewed him negatively since his playing days at the royal club.

Barcelona also discussed the possibility of facing Dutch club Ajax and Mexican side Cruz Azul, but both parties could not reach an agreement on the terms for the friendly match in Barcelona.

After ruling out all other options, Barcelona settled on facing Al Ahly in the upcoming edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy, marking the official presentation of the team to its fans before the start of the new season.
