Official: Menzambi Out for Switzerland vs Argentina in World Cup Quarter-Final
Switzerland has received a major blow ahead of their World Cup 2026 quarter-final clash against Argentina, with young star Johan Menzambi confirmed to be sidelined due to injury.
Switzerland's coach, Murat Yakin, stated in the pre-match press conference: "Unfortunately, Johan will not be able to play tomorrow. We tried to prepare him to be fit, but his condition does not allow it at this time."
Menzambi suffered a knee bruise that forced him to leave training before the Round of 16 match against Colombia, missing the game that Switzerland won on penalties, and now he will also miss the highly anticipated encounter against defending champions Argentina.
The absence of Menzambi is a significant loss for the Swiss national team, as he has been outstanding throughout the tournament, scoring 3 goals and providing 2 assists, making him one of the standout surprises of the 2026 World Cup.
