Al-Zawraa Signs Ali Adnan in Exciting Return
Al-Zawraa has officially signed left-back Ali Adnan from Al-Wehda, marking the return of one of Iraq's top talents to the domestic league.
Adnan, 32, arrived in Baghdad in recent days and underwent a medical examination before signing his contract with the club.
This transfer carries a special emotional significance, as Ali, who started in Al-Zawraa's youth ranks, returns to wear the first-team jersey after over 12 years of professional experience in Europe, Asia, and America.
Close sources to the player revealed that the dream of representing Al-Zawraa at the senior level has always been on his mind, and today it has come true after a successful career abroad.
Ali Adnan is historically regarded as the best among Iraqi professionals in terms of the number of leagues he has played in and the variety of experiences he has had.
He began at Al-Emana Baghdad before taking his first professional steps with Rizespor in Turkey. From Turkey, he opened the doors to Italy, where he played for Udinese and then moved to Atalanta on loan.
He then had a unique experience in the American league with Vancouver Whitecaps, returning to Europe through Vejle in Denmark, and later trying his luck in Russia with Rubin Kazan.
His journey didn’t stop there, as he also played in Iran and Saudi Arabia with Al-Wehda and Al-Najma, closing this chapter by returning to the Iraqi league with Al-Zawraa.
This vast diversity in football schools has given Adnan rare experience, both technically and physically, which Al-Zawraa management sees as a turning point for their defense.
Al-Zawraa has struggled for seasons with inconsistency at left-back, and today they acquire a seasoned international player who has played numerous matches and tournaments, participating in the Asian Cup and Gulf tournaments, being one of the pillars of the Iraqi national team for years.
In addition to his defensive skills, Adnan is known for his ability to advance, create plays, and take set pieces, qualities that the "Nawras" need in their upcoming journey.
In the statement released by the club, the chairman said:
"Ali Adnan is not just a player; he is a son of the club and has returned home. We trust that his vast experience will motivate the young players and be an important weapon in achieving our goals this season."
Ali Adnan expressed his happiness after signing:
"I am very happy to return to Al-Zawraa. This club is where I started, and I promise the fans that I will give my all to bring the team back to the podium. The fans deserve joy."
