Mourinho Begins New Project at Real Madrid

Real Madrid announced today, Friday, that Portuguese coach José Mourinho has officially begun his duties at the training complex, just days before the team's preparations for the 2026/2027 season commence.

The club stated in an official release: "José Mourinho has already started working at Real Madrid, where our new coach held a meeting with his coaching staff to finalize preparations for the upcoming season."

The statement added: "The team will begin its preparation period for the new season next Monday, starting with medical examinations before training sessions begin."

Mourinho's coaching staff includes João Tralhão as first assistant, António Dias for physical preparation, along with Pedro Machado, Roberto Merila, and Nuno Santos, while former German star Sami Khedira has joined the coaching team.

Real Madrid is set to play in the Teresa Herrera Trophy against Deportivo La Coruña on August 12, in addition to a friendly match in Austria on August 1, along with two more preparatory matches before the start of La Liga.

The official debut of Real Madrid under Mourinho's leadership will be on August 23 against Espanyol in the second round of La Liga, after the match against Real Sociedad in the first round was postponed due to several players participating in the final stages of the 2026 World Cup.
