Klopp Reveals Liverpool's Secret Attempt to Sign Mbappe

German manager Jürgen Klopp has revealed details of Liverpool's secret attempt to sign French star Kylian Mbappe in 2017, describing it as the "most expensive deal that never happened" during his coaching career, after the club made significant efforts to persuade the player to move to Anfield.

Klopp stated: "It was the most expensive deal that never happened for us. We traveled to Nice, and the entire Mbappe family boarded a private plane. We put in a lot of effort, and throughout the flight, we circled in the air so no one would see us. We talked with the family and had a wonderful meal... it was great, and then in the end, he went to Paris."

Klopp explained that the meeting took place in complete secrecy aboard a private plane while flying over Nice, in an attempt to keep negotiations away from the media's eyes. However, Mbappe ultimately chose to move to Paris Saint-Germain, before later transferring to Real Madrid in 2024.
