Lazio Accelerates Talks to Sign Sergi Dominguez
Lazio has quickly moved to compensate for the departure of Spanish defender Mario Gila, who has reached an agreement to join AC Milan, placing Sergi Dominguez, the former Dinamo Zagreb and Barcelona defender, at the top of their transfer priorities this summer.
According to Sky Sports, Lazio's sporting director has traveled to Croatia to meet with Dinamo Zagreb officials in an effort to finalize an agreement for the player.
The Croatian club values Dominguez at around €12 million, while Lazio aims to reach this figure by including bonuses and variables in the deal, as coach Gennaro Gattuso is eager to sign the young defender to strengthen the backline.
Football Italia reported that the 21-year-old Dominguez progressed through Barcelona's La Masia academy before moving to Dinamo Zagreb in the summer of 2025, where he played a key role in his team's domestic double, attracting interest from several European clubs, while Barcelona retains a percentage of the player's resale value.
Lazio sees the Spanish defender as a long-term project to replace Gila and hopes to finalize the deal quickly to benefit from the financial return from selling their defender and bolster their defense ahead of the new season.
