Mamdouh Abbas Calls for Action After World Cup Controversy

Mamdouh Abbas, former president of Zamalek SC, urged the Egyptian Football Association, led by Hani Abu Rida, to clarify the actions taken following the officiating injustice faced by the Egyptian national team in their Round of 16 match against Argentina on Tuesday. Argentina defeated Egypt 3-2 in a match that sparked widespread officiating controversy. Abbas stated on his X account that the international solidarity with the Egyptian team following the events of the match should be positively leveraged, calling on the Egyptian Football Association and the Confederation of African Football to announce the steps taken to protest the controversial officiating decisions. He added, "I believe that the international solidarity with Egypt in yesterday's events should be positively utilized, and Engineer Hani Abu Rida should inform us of the steps taken by the Egyptian Football Association and the CAF to protest what happened yesterday, and whether there is a serious intention to replay the match or not." He continued, "If there is an intention, our team in the United States should wait until things become clearer."
