Argentina secured a thrilling last-gasp victory against Egypt, winning 3-2, in the match held at the Atlanta Stadium during the Round of 16 of the World Cup, advancing to the quarterfinals to face Switzerland or Colombia.

The match started quietly, with Argentina enjoying relative possession and control of the ball, before Egypt managed to snatch the lead from their first real chance, as Marwan Attia delivered a precise cross that Yasser Ibrahim headed powerfully into the net.

Argentina nearly equalized in the 21st minute when the referee awarded a penalty against Haitham Hassan, but Mustafa Shobeir continued his brilliance, saving Lionel Messi's shot and keeping the Pharaohs in front.

The Argentine pressure continued, with Shobeir denying a dangerous header from Alexis Mac Allister, before a free-kick taken by Messi hit the post. The Egyptian goalkeeper then saved a clear chance in the 39th minute after a powerful shot from Julian Alvarez, ending the first half with Egypt leading 1-0.

At the start of the second half, Argentina continued their attempts, with Leandro Paredes firing a powerful shot just wide in the 50th minute. Mustafa Ziko scored a second goal for Egypt in the 58th minute after a counter-attack, but it was ruled out for a foul by Marwan Attia at the start of the move.

Egypt did not wait long, as Mustafa Ziko scored again in the 67th minute, following a quick counter led by Mohamed Salah, who passed to Haitham Hassan, who delivered a precise cross that Ziko converted into the net, confirming the Pharaohs' superiority.

In the 79th minute, Argentina pulled one back with a header from Cristian Romero following a cross from Messi, and Lautaro Martinez nearly equalized but his header went wide.

In the 84th minute, Lionel Messi equalized with a shot from inside the box, while Argentina snatched the winning goal in the 90+2 minute after a counter-attack ended with a cross from Lautaro, which Enzo Fernandez headed into the net.
