Mostafa Shobair continues to make history in the 2026 World Cup, becoming one of Egypt's standout stars during the Round of 16 match against Argentina, where the Pharaohs lead 1-0 thanks to a stunning header from Yasser Ibrahim in the 15th minute.

A pivotal moment occurred in the 21st minute when Mostafa Shobair saved a penalty taken by Lionel Messi, preserving Egypt's lead and showcasing his remarkable form in the tournament.

With this save, Mostafa Shobair becomes only the fourth goalkeeper in World Cup history to save two penalties in the same tournament, excluding shootouts, according to statistics from Opta.

Shobair had previously saved a penalty against Iran in the group stage, denying Mehdi Taremi from scoring.

The Egyptian goalkeeper joins a historic list that includes Poland's Jan Tomaszewski in 1974, the USA's Brad Friedel in 2002, and Poland's Wojciech Szczęsny in 2022, becoming the latest addition in the 2026 World Cup.
