The England national team arrived in Mexico City amid heightened tensions before their highly anticipated Round of 16 clash against Mexico in the 2026 World Cup, as Mexican fans greeted the players with chants and boos outside the team's hotel.

The Sun reported that the English players were uncertain about the kickoff time at Estadio Azteca until shortly before leaving Kansas City, as FIFA resolved the controversy and kept the original match schedule despite concerns over weather conditions.

The newspaper added that Mexican fans gathered outside the hotel as soon as the England delegation arrived, chanting in support of their team in an attempt to influence the Three Lions players, while metal barriers were erected to separate the fans from the team members.

The same source noted that the England team had planned to keep their accommodation location secret, but the leak of the hotel’s address thwarted that plan, prompting authorities to implement strict security measures to protect the squad.

Security measures included surrounding the hotel with a large number of police officers, closing several surrounding roads, and deploying riot control units hours before the delegation's arrival, as part of a plan to ensure the England team's preparations proceed without any disturbances.

England is gearing up to face Mexico in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, with great anticipation for the match against one of the tournament's hosts in a charged atmosphere.
