The Belgian national team secured its place in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, coming from behind to achieve a dramatic 3-2 victory over Senegal after extra time, in a match held at Seattle's stadium during the Round of 32.

Senegal dominated most of the match, opening the scoring in the 25th minute through Habib Diallo, before Ismaïla Sarr doubled the lead in the 51st minute, putting his team in a comfortable position.

However, Belgium refused to give up and began their comeback in the final minutes, with Romelu Lukaku reducing the deficit in the 86th minute following a crucial assist from Thomas Meunier.

The Belgian pressure continued until Youri Tielemans equalized with a precise header in the 89th minute, after a cross from Leandro Trossard, sending the match into extra time.

As the match seemed destined for penalties, the referee awarded Belgium a penalty in the 120th minute after consulting VAR, which Youri Tielemans successfully converted, scoring the dramatic winner and sending his team into the knockout stage.

With this victory, Belgium awaits the winner of the match between the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina for their Round of 16 clash.
