Mark Schwarzer, the former Australian national team goalkeeper, stated that playing against Egypt is easier than facing Belgium. The Egyptian national team is set to clash with Australia next Friday in the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup. In an article published on 'football360', Schwarzer wrote, "I believe the current Australian team is capable of being the first to win a knockout match in the World Cup." He added, "It will be a very tough match, but I must admit that I see facing Egypt as easier for Australia than facing Belgium, even with one of the best players in the world on their side." Schwarzer also expressed concern about Mohamed Salah's fitness, saying, "I feel sad for Salah if he doesn't participate; I know him well from our days at Chelsea. He is a great person, but I am happy for Australia if he is not fit. He is an excellent player, and even if this isn't his best season in the Premier League, he is still the king of Egypt, heavily relied upon, and always delivers outstanding performances for his country." He concluded, "Whether he is fit or not, and even if selected, he certainly won't be at his peak due to a minor hamstring injury. There is more quality in the Egyptian team, represented by Omar Marmoush and Trezeguet."
