For his part, the coach stressed that he does not intend to resign, stating after the defeat to Paraguay: "I am not someone who runs away. I have a contract, and if the German Football Association wants me to continue, I will keep working." He also enjoys the support of sporting director Rudi Völler, who described him as a "great coach and fighter."
