Atletico Madrid Announces Signing of Alejandro Grimaldo
Atlético Madrid announced that it has reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Spanish international full-back Alejandro Grimaldo, with the player signing a contract for four seasons until June 30, 2030.
Grimaldo is considered one of the most prominent left-backs in Europe, known for his ability to play in multiple positions, including full-back, winger, and attacking midfielder. He possesses high technical skills and a distinctive vision of the game, making him an offensive threat both in scoring goals and creating opportunities.
Grimaldo was born in the Spanish city of Valencia in 1995 and progressed through the academies of Atlético Valbonense, Valencia, and Barcelona before moving to Benfica in 2015. He played 303 matches with the Portuguese team, scoring 27 goals and providing 66 assists, achieving four league titles and three Portuguese Super Cup titles, in addition to the Portuguese Cup and the League Cup.
Grimaldo joined Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2023 and played 145 matches for the German team, scoring 30 goals and providing 45 assists. He was one of the standout stars of the team that achieved the historic double of the German league and cup in the 2023-2024 season, in addition to winning the German Super Cup. The Spanish international, who won the 2024 European Championship, is also part of the Spanish national team currently participating in the 2026 World Cup.
