The Moroccan national team forced extra time against the Dutch team after securing a valuable 1-1 draw in stoppage time of their match, which was part of the Round of 32 in the 2026 World Cup.

The first half ended without goals, despite a relative advantage for the Dutch team, which dominated the flow of the game and held 65 percent of ball possession compared to 35 percent for the Moroccan team. The Dutch also excelled in the number of attacking attempts and creating chances, but the "Atlas Lions" defense and their goalkeeper succeeded in keeping a clean sheet.

As the second half began, Achraf Hakimi nearly gave Morocco the lead when his shot rebounded off the post in the 52nd minute. However, the Netherlands managed to open the scoring in the 72nd minute through Cody Gakpo, benefiting from a decisive pass by Crysencio Summerville.

The Moroccan coach made several changes to invigorate the lines, bringing in Samir El Mourabiti, Jassim Yassin, and Soufiane Rahimi, before introducing Shamseddine Talbi in the final minutes, in an attempt to bring the Moroccan team back into the atmosphere of the match.

The Moroccan substitutions resulted in an equalizing goal in the first minute of stoppage time, after Chamseddine Talbi sent a decisive pass that Issa Diop successfully capitalized on, finding the net and giving the "Atlas Lions" a crucial goal that reset the match and forced the Dutch team into extra time.

Despite the Netherlands' superiority in most statistical indicators, having taken 10 shots compared to Morocco's 6, created more chances, and maintained possession for longer periods, the Moroccan team displayed strong character and managed to make a timely comeback. This kept their hopes alive for continuing their journey in the World Cup before the start of extra time to determine the qualifier for the round of 16.
