Mostafa Shobeir Makes History with the Egyptian National Team

Mostafa Shobeir made history in Egyptian football by becoming the second Egyptian goalkeeper to save a penalty in the history of the World Cup finals. This occurred during Egypt's match against Iran in the third round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.

Shobeir successfully saved the penalty kick taken by Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi in the first half, maintaining Egypt's lead and continuing his impressive performances in the tournament.

Shobeir became the second Egyptian goalkeeper to achieve this historic feat, following the legend Essam El-Hadary, who saved a penalty against the Saudi team in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, continuing the Pharaohs' goalkeepers' tradition of making history in the world's biggest football event.

This achievement gains additional significance as Shobeir's brilliance contributed to leading the Egyptian national team to a draw with Iran and securing a spot in the Round of 32 of the World Cup for the first time in the Pharaohs' history.
