Taremi Attacks FIFA and Infantino: We Are Experiencing a Catastrophic World Cup and No One Helps Us

Saturday 27-06-2026
Iranian national team captain Mehdi Taremi launched a sharp attack on the International Football Association (FIFA) and its president Gianni Infantino, describing the conditions his team is experiencing during the 2026 World Cup as "catastrophic," following a 1-1 draw against Egypt in the final round of the group stage.

Taremi said in strong statements after the match: "If they help us, we will be grateful for that, and if no one helps us, it doesn't matter. We will remain united, stand by each other, and try to give our best."

He added, "Everything we're experiencing is like a disaster. We don't have the head of the federation with us, many members of the administrative staff are absent, and even our manager is taking on additional tasks due to the lack of personnel."

The Iranian captain continued his criticisms, saying: "This puts immense pressure on the players, and we have very limited support. I believe FIFA could have handled the situation better."

He also pointed out that FIFA President Gianni Infantino visited the Iranian national team's locker room and promised to help, but clarified that the situation has not seen any tangible improvement so far.

Taremi concluded his statements by questioning the extent to which his national team is welcomed in the tournament, saying: "Sometimes we feel as if we are not welcome here. Despite all the circumstances, we will continue to fight and stand together."

This comes amid the Iranian team's struggles with logistical difficulties and frequent travel between the United States and Mexico during the tournament.
