Zico: I Made History That People Will Talk About for a Hundred Years from Now

Mostafa Zico, the star of the Egyptian national team, expressed his great happiness with the victory achieved by the Pharaohs against New Zealand in the 2026 World Cup.

Zico scored a goal and assisted another during Egypt's victory over New Zealand, with three goals to one, in the match that brought the two teams together last Monday morning, as part of the second round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.

Zico said in statements to the FIFA website: "I always imagine the moment we arrive at Cairo airport, how will the fans receive me? Will they turn their backs on me or will they welcome me with flowers, celebrate me, and be proud of me?"

He added: "After my goal against New Zealand, I was celebrating like crazy.. I couldn't believe myself, and my leg cramped entirely from the tension, and I was extremely happy with the goal.. It was an unbelievable feeling."

About his assist for Salah's goal, he said: "Oh my God, that was the best feeling in my life, even better than the goal I scored myself, a decisive heel pass to Salah to score the second goal and bring us closer to victory.. It was an unbelievable feeling."

He continued: "Everyone ran to celebrate with Salah while I was alone, in another world.. No one noticed me, I was running towards the corner flag celebrating while they were all around Salah.. I was in another world."

He added: "I was extremely happy knowing that I helped my national team win our first match in the World Cup.. Thank God."

He continued: "For me personally, as soon as the final whistle blew, my whole life flashed before my eyes, realizing that I had achieved an accomplishment and made history that people will talk about a hundred years from now.. It's truly a wonderful feeling, and I know that this match will remain in the minds of the Egyptian people for a long time."
