Norway vs France Match Threatened by Thunderstorms

Thursday 25-06-2026
The match between France and Norway, scheduled for Friday evening as part of the 2026 World Cup, faces the possibility of being affected by weather conditions, with forecasts predicting thunderstorms that could impact the course of the game.

The regulations in force in the United States require that games be halted for no less than 30 minutes when lightning is detected within an 8-mile radius, approximately 13 kilometers, of the stadium. This measure raises questions about its potential impact on the principle of equal opportunity during the final round of the group stage, despite the matches being held simultaneously.

This protocol had already caused some matches to be halted during the tournament, including the France vs. Iraq match, which ended with the French team winning 3-0.

In statements reported by "RMC Sport" radio, FIFA explained the mechanism for dealing with such cases during the final round of the group stage, confirming that the scheduled system will not undergo any changes despite the possibility of some matches being halted due to weather conditions.

FIFA emphasized that the regulations for the 2026 World Cup stipulate that the final round matches of the group stage must kick off simultaneously, with full priority given to the safety of players, fans, and all participants in the tournament.

Based on that, any delay or interruption that may occur in the France vs. Norway match will not affect the other matches taking place in different stadiums, even if there is a difference in the timing of the match's resumption.
