From the Netherlands to Tunisia... Omar Rekik's Journey Reaches an Exceptional Chapter Tonight

Thursday 25-06-2026
Tonight's match between Tunisia and the Netherlands in the World Cup will have a special significance for defender Omar Rekik, who was born in the Netherlands and represented Dutch youth teams before deciding to change his sports nationality and choose to represent Tunisia's senior national team.

Rekik, who progressed through the academies of several prominent European clubs, wore the Netherlands Under-18 national team jersey before deciding in 2021 to join the "Eagles of Carthage" and play his first international match with Tunisia.

Ironically, the 24-year-old player will find himself tonight facing the national team he previously represented at the youth level, in a match that holds a special personal significance for him despite Tunisia's exit from the competition.

Raqiq also scored Tunisia's only goal in the 2026 World Cup so far during the match against Sweden.
