Decision from the International Sports Court in Favor of Zamalek
Zamalek Club received a final ruling in its favor from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the appeal submitted against the decision of the Confederation of African Football regarding the events of the 2024 Confederation Cup final against Morocco's RS Berkane.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had previously decided to fine Zamalek Club 200,000 US dollars and ban the club from playing two African championship matches without spectators, with the suspension of the penalty for two matches, due to the events that took place during the 2024 Confederation Cup final.
Zamalek stated in an official statement: "Zamalek Club has obtained a final ruling in its favor from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the appeal submitted against the decision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding the events of the final match of the 2024 CAF Confederation Cup against the Moroccan club RS Berkane."
He continued: "The court ruled in favor of Zamalek Club's appeal, reducing the financial penalty imposed on the club by $100,000, which is 50% of the $200,000 deducted from the club's dues. This entitles the club to reclaim this amount, based on the arguments and evidence the club presented during the litigation stages, which emphasized its commitment to properly organizing the match and the absence of similar incidents against it in previous years."
He concluded: "In this regard, Zamalek Club appreciates the efforts of the office of Counselor Nasr El-Din Azam and the legal team, which included Mr. Hisham Eissa, Mr. Abdel Rahman Hashish, and Mr. Mostafa Hani, who represented the club in this case through hearings before the Confederation of African Football and the International Court of Arbitration for Sport."
