Aaron Ramsey as New Coach for Oxford United

Tuesday 23-06-2026
Press reports have revealed that Oxford United is preparing to appoint former Welsh star Aaron Ramsey as the team's new manager, with the official announcement of the deal expected in the coming hours, following meetings held with the club's management on Monday evening.

Ramsey will take on the managerial role permanently for the first time in his coaching career, having retired from football last April. He had a brief stint as an interim coach with Cardiff City at the end of the 2024-2025 season, but it ended with the team being relegated to a lower division.

Ramsey is considered one of the standout players of his generation. He began his career with Cardiff City before moving to Arsenal, where he spent 11 years and won 3 FA Cup titles. He later played for Juventus, Nice, and Pumas UNAM, in addition to earning 86 international caps with the Wales national team.

He is expected to be joined by his former Welsh national team colleague Chris Gunter in the coaching staff, as Ramsey takes on the task of leading Oxford United back to the English Championship after their relegation, at a time when the club is undergoing extensive administrative and technical changes this season.
