Rangnick Before Facing Argentina: We Must Deliver Our Best Performance Since I Took Over Austria

Monday 22-06-2026
Austrian national team coach Ralf Rangnick confirmed that his team will be required to deliver their best match since he took over if they want to keep up with the reigning champions, Argentina, in the anticipated clash between the two teams as part of the 2026 World Cup competitions.

Rangnick said in the press conference before the match: "We must prove that we are one of the best teams in this World Cup. This means we have to play at a very high tactical level, but also be at the highest level in terms of energy and courage. We have to show the best performance we have delivered so far during my tenure as Austria's coach."

The German coach also praised the strength of the Argentine team, affirming that its weaknesses are almost nonexistent, and that the team possesses exceptional quality in all positions, in addition to having Lionel Messi, whom he described as one of the greatest players in the history of the game.

Both teams enter the match with 3 points each, after Argentina defeated Algeria 3-0, while Austria overcame Jordan with a 3-1 victory. A win would grant the victor an early ticket to the knockout stages.

Although he acknowledged that Austria is not the favorite, Rangnick emphasized that his team has a clear character and a style of play capable of troubling any opponent, asserting that self-belief and perfect execution of the plan could give Austria a chance to surprise the world champion.
