Bergvall Requests to Leave Tottenham

Sunday 21-06-2026
Journalist David Ornstein reported that Swedish midfielder Lukas Bergvall wishes to leave Tottenham Hotspur during the current summer transfer window, seeking a new challenge in his professional career, amidst interest from clubs in England and elsewhere in Europe.

According to the report, the 20-year-old player, currently participating with the Swedish national team in the 2026 World Cup, has informed Tottenham's management of his desire to leave this summer despite his contract running until June 2031, after joining the club from Djurgården in 2024.

The report indicated that last season saw fluctuations in Bergvall's roles within the team. He started prominently under Ange Postecoglou's leadership and contributed to winning the 2025 UEFA Europa League title. However, his situation changed later with the changes in coaching staff and the variety of playing systems, which affected his regular participation.

He also explained that the interest of clubs like Chelsea and Aston Villa had previously emerged, but negotiations did not progress as Tottenham insisted on keeping him at that time.

Bergvall continues to appear with the Swedish national team in the World Cup, where he made history as the youngest player to represent his country in the tournament, before going on to participate in the recent matches that saw mixed results for his national team.
