Güler: We Feel Ashamed, and I Will Do Everything I Can to Forget This World Cup Edition
Arda Güler, the star of the Turkish national team, expressed his great disappointment after his country's early exit from the 2026 World Cup, following two consecutive losses in the first two rounds of the group stage.
The Turkish national team officially exited the tournament after losing 1-0 to Uruguay in the second round, having also lost to Australia in the opening round, failing to earn any points or score any goals during their World Cup campaign.
Guler said in statements after the match: "We want to apologize, we feel ashamed. We all play for major clubs and we must deliver a much better performance in this tournament."
He added, "In two matches, we didn't score any goals, and this is unacceptable."
The Turkish star denied any crises within the national team's camp, stating: "There was absolutely no problem between us in the locker room; we were just unable to score goals, that's all."
Güler concluded his statements by saying, "In my career with the national team, I will exert every possible effort to forget this edition of the World Cup."
