Al-Salami: The Result Does Not Reflect the True Face of the Nashama

Al-Salami: The Result Does Not Reflect the True Face of the Nashama

Wednesday 17-06-2026
The head coach of the Jordanian national team, Jamal Al-Salami, asserted that the "Nashama's" 3-1 loss to Austria in the opening match of the 2026 World Cup does not reflect the true performance of the players during the game.

Al-Salmi said in statements after the match: "Today we saw another side of the Nashama and I am proud of the players' performance. The result does not reflect the true nature of the match."

He added: "We conceded a goal in the first half and had opportunities that we didn't know how to handle, and we need to manage them better."

The Moroccan coach continued: "We talked to the players during halftime and scored the equalizing goal. We were at our best, but the pause affected the players mentally, and some minor details led us to concede the second goal."

Al-Salami explained that the differences in experience played a role in tipping the scales in favor of the opponent, saying: "The Austrian team has players from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund with great advantages, and we tried to come back in the match, but luck was not on our side."

Regarding the upcoming match against Algeria, Salami said: "The next match against Algeria? Both we and Algeria exited the first round with a loss, and the most important thing for us is to regain our physical fitness. We delivered a good performance in the match against Austria, which might help us in the upcoming match. We will play against our Algerian brothers, who have outstanding players. We hope to be up to the occasion, deliver a good match, and achieve a better result than today's match."
