The Spanish National Police have arrested a fan of Atletico Madrid for making racist remarks against Real Madrid's Brazilian star Vinicius Junior, while he was near the Metropolitano Stadium before the Atletico Madrid and Barcelona match in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.

According to the newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo,' the incident dates back to April 14th, when the 27-year-old fan made racially charged insults towards Vinicius while he was near the stadium, wearing an Atletico Madrid shirt at the time.

The newspaper explained that a Brazilian television channel captured the scenes that included those insults, which then spread widely across social media platforms in Brazil, prompting the Spanish National Police to launch an official investigation to identify the perpetrator.

The investigations, conducted in collaboration between the information teams of the National Police in Madrid and Valencia, resulted in locating the suspect in the city of Valencia and arresting him.

The fan is facing charges of a potential crime related to incitement to hatred, in a new case that falls under the efforts of Spanish authorities to combat racist behaviors associated with stadiums and sporting events.
