Officially.. Al-Zawraa Announces Contract with Basim Qasim

Al-Zawraa Club restored confidence in one of its own by officially announcing the contract with the veteran coach Basim Qasim to lead the first team in the new season 2026-2027. The return of "The General" to Al-Taji Stadium came after a strong season he had with Erbil.

The club issued an official statement announcing the details of the supporting staff. Basim Qasim will be at the helm, assisted by the duo Rahim Hamid and Ahmed Basim Qasim. The goalkeeping duties were entrusted to Hashim Khamis, while Nasir Abdul Amir will handle the physical preparation. For the first time in the Nawras technical staff, a position for a technical analyst was created and assigned to Rinas Ismail to be the technical eye that observes the finest details.

The return of Basim Qasim is not new to Al-Zawraa fans. The coach had previously led the Nawras and achieved the Iraqi Premier League title with them, leaving a clear mark in the club's history. His experience is not limited to Al-Zawraa; he previously supervised Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya and achieved successes with them, and also led the Iraqi national team in the past, guiding the Lions of Mesopotamia in more than one entitlement.

Before returning to Baghdad, Basim Qasim was leading Erbil last season. With the "Yellow Fortress," he succeeded in finishing the league in third place, an achievement that reflects his ability to build a competitive team despite the circumstances. This strong season was the main factor that prompted Al-Zawraa's management to open the club's doors to their former coach.

Al-Zawraa's contract with Basim Qasim carries more than one message. The first: the management's desire for technical stability and a long-term project instead of changing coaches every season.
