Doku: I Have a Champion's Mentality, So I Always Strive to Win Every Match

Jeremy Doku, star of the Belgian national team, conducted an interview before their match against the Egyptian national team in the first round of the 2026 World Cup.

The Belgian national team faces its counterpart, the Egyptian national team, this Monday evening as part of the first round of the World Cup.

Doku said in statements published by the Belgian network 'rtbf': 'I will try to watch as many World Cup matches as possible. I am interested and love watching football to learn, as it is beneficial for team unity. We watch the matches together and have a good time.'

He added: 'It's not necessarily for personal learning, but you can understand how other teams play, as they are from different continents, different countries, and play in different ways. It's always great to see that.'

He continued: 'I know my abilities on the field, I try to do my role and duty and contribute to the team. Every player has his role; my duty is to create chances. As a winger, I have improved a lot this season, offensively, in terms of scoring and creating goals. What I have delivered at the club level, I try to bring to the national team. I am very happy at the moment.'

He added: 'I will never give up my dribbling skills and direct play. In the end, statistics must be considered; it's the essence of modern football, what can take a player to the top of the world. This is what I strive for, to be in the right positions to achieve these statistics. This is the level I have developed in and I still want to develop even more.'

He admitted: 'Setting a goal in this tournament is difficult. You might feel satisfied reaching a certain stage of the competition, but when you reach that stage and lose, you won't feel satisfied.'

He emphasized: 'I have a champion's mentality, so I strive to win every match consistently. You never feel satisfied when losing, so it's hard to say I will be satisfied just reaching this stage.'

The match between Belgium and Egypt kicks off at 10 PM Cairo and Mecca time.
